Demo-farm for the implementation of demonstration and information actions on the sustainable use of plant protection products in Natura 2000 Network Sites
Project co-financed by the Operation 1.2.01 "Demonstration projects and information actions" of the of the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 of the Lombardy Region.

Demonstration activities on the following crops:

• Maize
• Rice

The objectives of the project are:

• to set up a demo-farm in which apply the principles of sustainable use of plant protection products in rice and maize crops, with particular attention at conserving and improving biodiversity in Natura 2000 Network Sites;
• to support farms in dealing with the complexity of the sustainable use of plant protection products, from their purchase to their safe storage and disposal;
• to support farmers in the implementation of mitigation measures  provided by Regional Decree n° 1376 of 11 March 2019, especially in areas of high environmental value, by disseminating knowledge of tools for the reduction of point and diffuse pollution (direct and indirect means for the containment of and indirect means for the containment of drift and runoff), including through proper maintenance and adjustment of spraying equipment;
• to implement, demonstrate and promote alternative mitigation measures aimed at reducing impacts from plant protection products drift, conserving and improving biodiversity and ecosystem services in the agri-environment
• to encourage the adoption of innovative low-plant protection products techniques in maize and rice crops;
• to make farmers aware of their role as guardians of biodiversity and the environment, especially for Natura 2000 areas
• to provide suitable information tools for the professional updating of phytosanitary advisors
• to provide agro-mechanical operators with information and guidelines for the correct management of crop operations.
